I have been doing my thing for over 50 years—innovating, trailblazing, pioneering (and yes, collecting a few arrows in my back along the way). I’ve been a visionary and I’ve been wrong. Every day I reinvent and create. It’s my passion. Some days are easier than others, and it takes intentionality and purpose to build an environment where you can slip into that creative flow. Welcome to my “man cave,” where countless hours of joy and creation unfold. Some days I push the noodle a mile; other days, only an inch. But I compartmentalize, I don’t run mind trips on myself, and I forge ahead. You can too!
Find Your Sweet Spot
What do you want to accomplish in your lifetime? How will you focus your energy—on survival, success, or significance? We live in a world brimming with opportunities for mere survival, but life offers so much more than just making ends meet. Dream big and aim for significance by zeroing in on your “sweet spot”—that unique intersection of talent, passion, and purpose.
Believe in Yourself
For most people, believing in themselves is the biggest obstacle to success. Once you discover what you’re truly good at, it’s rarely a lack of talent that holds you back—it’s a lack of self-trust. Self-imposed limits can stifle your growth. But when you believe in yourself, you unlock power and resources that help you reach new heights. Your potential is what you can become; belief is what pushes you to reach for it.
Set High Expectations
We can’t act in ways that don’t match our expectations for ourselves. Consider the aviation pioneer who built a plane before the Wright brothers’ flight—yet was too afraid to fly it. Whether he feared uncharted territory or expected to fail, he never realized his creation’s potential. Don’t let fear or low expectations keep you grounded. Set lofty goals, and watch how your actions align with them.
Passion Fuels Achievement
Loving what you do is the key that opens the door to achievement. If you don’t enjoy your work, it shows—no matter how hard you try to hide it. Passion ignites perseverance, creativity, and excellence. When you feel that spark, your output shines, and success naturally follows.
Take Initiative
When it comes to taking action, people fall into four categories:
- Those who do the right thing without being told
- Those who do it when told once
- Those who do it after being told multiple times
- Those who never do it
Be the first kind—anticipate needs, seize opportunities, and move proactively. Initiative separates dreamers from doers.
